Thompson Springs

Architect: Jones Architecture

  • Since being selected as the development partner for Sammy’s Place in early 2024, Owen Gabbert, LLC has played a central role in advancing the Thompson Springs project from concept to construction readiness. Working alongside Jones Architecture, our team—led by Development Director Shane Boland—has provided leadership in entitlement, fund raising, budgeting, and legal communications while also helping to develop a new homeownership structure to support long-term affordability. Through consistent involvement and daily coordination, we’ve ensured that every step of the process is aligned with the project’s vision of accessibility, affordability, inclusion, and community.

This collaborative, hands-on approach has helped secure critical momentum and funding, including awards from Oregon Housing and Community Services (LIFT Homeownership), the Kuni Foundation, the Fairview Trust, and construction lending with Summit Bank. Our early engagement and continuity into the construction phase positions the project for a smooth permitting and implementation process, while ensuring that Sammy’s Place’s goals remain front and center.

Focused on the North Coast of Oregon, Sammy’s Place is a 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to creating inclusive living, working, and respite opportunities inspired by nature for people experiencing disabilities and those who share their journey. In 2018, Sammy’s Place was granted the 2.93-acre Thompson Springs property at 13500 Thompson Road by Tillamook County, with the express purpose of building affordable housing. The site adjoins Nehalem City Park to the north, residential neighborhoods to the east, west, and south, and includes wetlands and a perennial stream that will be thoughtfully integrated into the development.

The plan for Thompson Springs includes 10 single story, fully accessible units, a community building, and shared outdoor amenities, designed to foster connection, accessibility, and affordability. Together, this development team is committed to transforming a long-held vision into a lasting community asset for Nehalem and the surrounding region.
